What a slot is

One monitor, one event, one slot - running or stopped.

A slot is the right to have one monitor in existence. One monitor watches one event on one platform. Twenty slots means twenty events at once, and it is the only thing that differs between the plans.

The rule, in one line

Every monitor that exists counts, running or stopped. Deleting one frees its slot immediately.

That is deliberate and it is the part people get wrong. Stopping a monitor does not give the slot back: a stopped monitor keeps its event, its webhook, its proxy choice and its history, ready to start again in one click. If you want the slot back, delete the monitor.

Where you see it

Overview — the Slots used tile, for example 7 / 20.
Monitors — the same count in the toolbar above the grid.
New monitor — under the Create button, and the button is disabled with an explanation if you have none left.

What happens when you run out

Creating a monitor is refused with a message saying so. Nothing is deleted and no running monitor is disturbed. You have three ways forward:

Delete a monitor for an event that has passed. The slot is free instantly.
Move up a plan from Settings → Billing. Stripe prorates it, and the new slots are usable as soon as the payment confirms.
Wait. Nothing expires, so a slot that frees up later still works.

Moving down a plan

If you drop to a plan with fewer slots than you are using, we stop the newest monitors until you are inside the new limit and email you which ones. They are stopped, not deleted, so nothing is lost: delete the ones you no longer want and start whichever you would rather keep.

Things that do not use a slot

A webhook. Have as many as you like, or one for everything.
A proxy list or gateway. Same.
A captcha key. Same.
Restarting a monitor. It is the same monitor and the same slot.
Several webhooks on one event. Not supported: one monitor has one webhook. Two channels for one event means two monitors and two slots.

Slots and platforms

A slot is not tied to a platform. Today every monitor is a Ticketmaster UK monitor because that is the engine that is live; when the eticketing and SeatGeek engines land, the same slots run those too at no extra cost. Deleting a Ticketmaster monitor and creating a SeatGeek one is a straight swap.

A practical habit: keep one slot spare. On-sales are the moment you want to add a monitor in a hurry, and that is exactly when you do not want to be deciding which existing one to delete.
